Remote Radiology Reporting

Africa Telerad provides hospitals, diagnostic centres and clinics with dependable access to qualified radiologists across all major imaging modalities.

Our remote reporting service can provide complete radiology coverage for facilities without an in-house radiologist or additional capacity for hospitals with existing radiology teams. We support daytime, overnight, weekend, public-holiday, overflow and emergency reporting requirements. Every submitted study is supported by a managed workflow that combines radiologist assignment, operational monitoring, defined turnaround times, quality-assurance processes and technical support. The service is powered by AfyaRadTM, our secure teleradiology and medical imaging workflow platform.

How remote reporting works

1

Perform the examination

Your radiographer performs the examination using the facility's existing imaging equipment and ensures that the images, patient details and relevant clinical information are complete.

2

Submit the study securely

The images and clinical information are transmitted to Africa Telerad through AfyaRadTM, your existing PACS connection or another agreed submission workflow. Urgent studies should be identified according to the agreed escalation procedure so that they can be prioritised appropriately.

3

Assign and report

Our operations team monitors incoming studies and coordinates assignment to a radiologist with the appropriate qualifications and experience. The radiologist reviews the images and clinical information, interprets the study and prepares the report. Cases requiring clarification, additional information or further review are escalated through the relevant clinical or operational process.

4

Deliver the completed report

The completed report is made available through AfyaRadTM, your Hospital Information System or another agreed delivery channel. Authorised clinicians can access the report and associated images according to the facility's configured workflow and permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a PACS to use Africa Telerad's reporting service?
Not necessarily. If your facility already has a PACS, we can assess how it can connect with the reporting workflow. If you do not have one, studies can be submitted through AfyaRadTM or another agreed transmission method, depending on your equipment and requirements.
How quickly will we receive reports?
Our standard turnaround targets are: emergencies and X-ray within 1 hour; CT within 1.5 hours; MRI and mammography within 5 hours. Turnaround is measured from receipt of a complete and accessible study with the required clinical information. Final commitments are confirmed in the service agreement.
How is the reporting service priced?
Reporting is generally priced per completed report, with rates determined by the imaging modality and agreed service arrangement. Any additional implementation, integration, storage or infrastructure requirements are assessed separately. Contact us for a proposal based on your expected volumes and coverage needs.
Which imaging equipment is compatible?
AfyaRadTM supports standard DICOM imaging studies. Compatibility depends on the equipment, its configuration and the available transmission method. Conventional film-based studies may require digitisation before they can be submitted for remote reporting.
Who interprets the studies?
Studies are assigned to radiologists according to their verified qualifications, experience, areas of competence and availability. Reports are issued in accordance with the applicable licensing and clinical-governance requirements.
What is involved in getting started?
We assess your modalities, study volumes, existing systems, connectivity and reporting requirements. We then configure and test the agreed submission and report-delivery workflow, train relevant staff and confirm readiness before the service goes live.
